Abnormal smear

I have received a letter this morn saying that my result is abnormal. They have made an appt for me to go to a clinic on 4th jan for a colposcopy. I only had the smear on the 19th December. Apparently there is moderate dyskaryosis.
The dr was reassuring on the phone, but am very scared. My mum died of cancer 3 years ago (not sure what type) and it was very quick, just 6 weeks.
I first went to the gp with what was a suspected yeast infection as had pain during sex and had the smear done to get it out the way at the same time as it was slightly overdue.
Has anyone any experience of this? It seems likely that they will also performLLETZ at the same time. I find vaginal exams etc very difficult at the best of times as I get very tense and they generally hurt a bit.

I'm sorry you are going through this. Please try not to worry too much, although I know that's easier to say than do. I had an abnormal smear test many years ago which was treated by laser (not sure what they do these days) and have had many normal smear tests since. It's good that they are seeing you quickly. I hope all turns out well.

Again try not to worry. I also had an abnormal smear several years ago. I had a colposcopy and then LLETZ treatment at a later appointment. The LLETZ was done under local anaesthetic which was topped up throughout so it was pain free and the gynae and nurses were very kind and reassuring.

I've also had no problems since.

Thankyou for getting back to me, that does help.
I think I would be feeling less scared if I hadn't had the pain and discharge and it had just been a routine smear, but have to hope that the two aren't connected. Just gotta get through the appointment. I guess it's only an hour In total and then a wait for the results... Keeping Fingers and bits all crossed..
