Have had an awful cold all last week and a bit the week before, am almost over my cold now until this afternoon.

I want to cry it hurts so much, first I just stuck some tissue in it and carried on blitzing house but now it aches with sharp pain every so often.

I know I can put olive oil in before I go to sleep but what can I do now. Sad It really really hurts.

Sad it really really hurts, not unbearable but a lot. I do have a high pain threshold and I don't normally moan. It really really hurts.

My kids have had similar symptoms to this last wek and when I took them to the docs yesterday it was ear infections and antibiotics all round. May be worth consulting you out of hours service

Pain killers, cotton wool with olive oil and lots of warm liquids.

purplewithred · 22/12/2012 17:53

I assume you've tried paracetamol/ibuprofen?

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 22/12/2012 17:56

I have just took some paracetamol, don't have any ibuprofen.

I just burped and it popped slightly and now hurts more Sad

I will ring out of hours if it's not ok by tomorrow,

can I use olive oil now? Thought it had to be done at night before you went to sleep.

It may be that you have an ear infection which has perforated your eardrum. My DD2 has had this numerous times. While most GP's
don't give antibiotics for ear infections anymore, ours does if the eardrum perforates because you are more prone to a secondary infection and it helps to make sure that the eardrum can heal. You should ring your GP's out of hours service and ask if there is a clinic you can go to. Ibuprofen is also supposed to be better than paracetemol because it's an anti-inflammatory as well.

Try lying on a hot water bottle covered in a tea towel or pillow case unless your bottle had a cover on it. The warmth will sooth the pain. Maybe Nhs direct or speak to a pharmacist for advise. Hope you feel better soon.

No more drops of blood and it doesn't really hurt now. I haven't got a hot water bottle (have put in orders for one for Christmas off nan and mum Grin) but will do the salt in the tea towel trick for warmth.

I don't want antibiotics, well not till after Christmas Xmas Grin if it goes back to how it was yesterday il call out of hours and see what they say. Don't Want to go to the gp drop in that's always open as dd was sick last night and don't want to pass on her bug.

It feels itchy inside now more then anything.

Try a nasal saline spray. Someone on here suggested it and it was the only thing that cleared my ear infection! Antibiotics didn't work at all.

Oo ok I like trying new recommendations off of here!
