Just found out that my 10mth old niece has septic arthritis and everyone is beside themselves with worry. It's in her hip and fluid has collected there.
Any help/advice/experience will be appreciated! Many thanks.

no idea, but bumping for you!

I was on an orthopedic ward on placement and I saw a few people with that, its an infection of the joint I believe. I saw a baby (similar age to your neice) have her septic hip washed out in theatre, it was a very small operation, which mostly seemed to involve the surgeon squirting water into the joint! It was very quick, and the surgeon said that it was not an uncommon operation. Hope thats some help.

Thanks starlover & Smurfgirl - I thought no-one cared!

Glad it sounds a small operation and that's it's not uncommon, it puts my mind at rest a bit. Thanks for you help! :)

My daughter had it when she fell and a sewing needle went into her knee joint she is lucky if caught quickly it it can be sorted.Unfortunately if not identified you could find yourself in worst possible situation-yes that one!
Bex had a week in hospital iv antibiotics 6 times a day then 6 more weeks of oral antibiotics afterwards. Her scar was 10cm long but wwent keloid so you might need to watch for the scar for any bumpiness. She is a lucky girl to be diagnosed quickly hope she comes through it well and is up and about really soon.
