Great tip from GP: keeping hydrated with norovirus

My lovely GP has given me some great advise about staying hydrated during norovirus and I thought I'd share it.

Take a teaspoon of water every two minutes. This isn't enough for your body to reject (ie vomit) and should be absorbed almost instantly.

When you feel like you can cope with this, take 2 teaspoons every 4 mins....and so on until you can stomach dyrolite, lucazade, flat coke.

If you start vomiting again go back to the teaspoon of water every 2 mins.

My GP gave me a tip for keeping hydrated.

Make a glass of ribena and add half teaspoon of salt to it mix untill salt is disolved and take smalll sips.

Tastes better than those sachets!

Dp told me to give dd an ice lolly, if you suck it you get liquid and sugar, but it's slow enough to stop your stomach rejecting it

Thanks for sharing thats a brilliant suggestion. I hope I will not need to use it but I certainly will remember that if need be. Could you post in chat too a lot of people are suffering with this vile bug at the moment and it might stop people having to go to hospital.

I have no idea how to put a link to this thread on chat, can anyone do this?

My DH was carted off in an ambulance yesterday with norovirus, he was so dehydrated that his kidneys are playing up. He has other medical problems tho, so this is not the norm as they advise You to stay away from GPs andthe hospital. Think Christmas is cancelled in this house:(

Oh I'm so sorry longfufu, I. Hope your dh makes a speedy recovery.

So do I. He really doesn't deserve (not that anyone does) all the health problems he's had. He keeps asking me what he did to deserve this, heartbreaking :(
