I think I'm on the verge of developing a proper nightmare phobia - how to avoid doing so?

A large-ish wasp landed on my hand today, and I didn't notice, but rather caught sight of it whilst getting a plate of cake. It was quite happily sitting there, just pulsating .

I threw the plate down, started crying, hyperventilating and swearing - didn't know what to do to get rid of it without it stinging me, but it flew away, anyway, after about a minute.

I realise this is all a bit commonplace but I am still a bit shaky. I've never had a reaction like that before and I can imagine this is how phobias start. Is there anything to be done to deal with it?
