Starting jogging.

So I've decided to start jogging as the only gym near by is £70 a month membership! But I have a few questions. What do you wear? What do you do with your stuff like your keys and phone? How long do you need to jog for for it to actually be beneficial? I'm a bit clueless so any help would be appreciated. Grin

I love running! I wear dry fit tshirt and track suit bottoms, but any tshirt and trackies would do. In summer I wear Lycra shorts - I get really sweaty! I wear a jogging belt - has a zipped pocket where I keep keys and inhaler, and a water bottle pocket where I keep my iPod (can't be bothered bringing a drink with me!). You can find various running schedules online - they involve a mixture of running and walking to get you up to a full run. It's up to you how much you do - about 20-30 minutes would be a good target. The important thing is to wear good shoes - find somewhere that does gait analysis, to work out how much/what kind of support you need. I wear Adidas glide, which I love - got them for 30 online (were much dearer in the shops). Have fun!

And you should change your shoes every 500miles - depending how far you go, that could be every four months, or every 18 months.

My additional recommendation is a good sports bra!

I started very non fancy - literally walking for a song, jogging for one. When I started I could just manage a mile - now I do 8 miles regularly and that's since January

I started off going out for ten minutes and I still occasionally go for 10 or 15 minute jogs, I also go once a week for about an hour with a group of friends. I recomend jogging with friends - keeps up the motivation and the talkng takes my mind of it - helps me to go further,

Okay I need to get some proper running shoes and some kind of sports bra. Went running today and only had plimsoles to wear and can feel the damage it did to my lower leg.

Firstly get thee to the Sports & Exercise section, where you'll find lots more runners. Secondly, look into the C25K app/podcast/whatever works for you.

Keys and phone could go in a bum bag.
