Pleurisy. How long does it hurt for?

I've had a chest infection but now have pleurisy. I've had the pain in my chest for nearly 4 weeks but only been taking nsaids for one week. Anyone have experience of how long this may last?

I'm afraid it took a month to be all gone for me once the antibiotics worked, but that was a gradual reducing of the pain. Once the coughing eased it was much better.

Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear!

Mine went within 2 weeks but by then I'd cracked a rib from all the coughing, so that hurt a while longer :(
Do you also have problems breathing? I had an inhaler for a while

Can't imagine coping with a cracked rib, that must have been horrid. Breathing is getting better. Can't do anything strenuous as breathing hurts then. Not coughing so much now which makes it easier. Over did it on Saturday and felt worse Sunday. Only did a bit of cleaning. The rest will have to wait! Looking forward to feeling 'normal' again!

Poor you :( just leave all the housework for a while, you need to rest. It's really important you keep on top of the painkillers so you breathe properly - you don't want pneumonia as well! Lots of painkillers and lots of rest xx

I spent a month in hospital with it in 2002... took about 8 weeks to feel vaguely normal again.

Loads of painkillers is the answer.

You may find it hurts in cold weather or if you run in future years. I ended up with a lot of adhesions from scarring and they pull when I breathe very cold air. Gave me a nasty shock the first time when I thought the pleurisy was making a come-back.

How you feel better soon.
