Perforated Bowel?

Just found out my cousin's otherwise completely healthy boyfriend has been rushed into hospital with a perforated bowel.

Obviously it is a huge shock and my family are upset so didn't want to ask many questions

Does anyone have any experience of this? What is it/ treatment/ likely outcome? Don't really want to google it and scare myself silly

Anything at all would be really helpful! Thanks xo

My ex husband had this 4 yrs ago. He had no past med histroy and was a while being disgnosed- it took 3 admissions and discharges and finally a CT scan still wasnt conclusive, The surgeons finally opened him up to see what was gling on and warned him they were looking for a possible cancer which freaked him out as you can imagine. He was rough for a couple of days after but improved quickly afterwards. I think he would have recovered more quickly still if he had been opened up sooner.
With ex H it was his small bowel - (ileum). They removed approx a foot! of necrotic bowell- ie it had lost it's blood supply wad was effectively dead tissue. They joined it back up and that was it. He had to build up to full eating and drinking slowly over the first week but recovered well. If it is the large bowel they may have to mamage this differently so dont assume it will be the same. Ex H has had no ill effects since- he works a full time physical job and is generally back to full health.
Hope all goes ok with your cousins bf
