period lasting three weeks

hi,bit if background

im early forties

always regular periods

havent used contraception for years

the last six months my periods have been a bit scatty normaly every 27-28 days but lateley have been sometimes 30+ or as little as 21 days

this month my period started on day 21 and hasnt stopped its now been 3 weeks and at fist day 5 it stopped then 24hrs later it started again and blood loss is medium (sought of day 3 amount)

my mum had the menopause at 55

will it do me harm to bleed for so long

I would visit the GP asap as any such change to the cycle should be reported.

so you dont think this is normal older womens health

theyve never lasted this long

My daughter had similar erratic periods - lasting forever then none at all, in her early 40s, and had her FSH hormone in blood tested, which was too high. A year or 2 on with Oestragen also reduced, diagnosed with the Perimenopause, and now on HRT as she did suffer with night and daytime sweats.
See GP for FSH blood test - Folicular stimulating hormone and your oestragen.
