Blood in urine

I could see it - cloudy, pinky orange wee last night - and I had no symptoms other than a slightly congested feeling, and being dehydrated generally (too lazy to get off sofa for glass of water Blush.

GP this morning found blood on dipstick, though no longer visible in wee - that was a one-off. On ABs and back for repeat dip test on Friday, but likely to be referred for cystoscopy.....and am therefore panicking slightly....both about procedure, and about whats causing this. I'm 52, so although not all that risky (not old/male/smoker) still GP said firmly 'very important not to ignore this' Sad

I've had UTIs in the past, and a bout of them earlier in the year, but never seen sign of blood in wee before - am a bit Shock, tbh. Am I over-reacting, please?!

I wear panty liners and am older than you, and sometimes I see something on the liner. To make sure where it is coming from, I use a mini lillet tampon into my vag. As I am on HRT, I do occasionally get breakthrough spotting, and always find that is where it is coming from.

Try that first to make sure.

Clever! Smile Thank you.

I am not on HRT though, and am postmenopausal - and there was blood in my urine sample. Less panicky today, but am soo hoping for no blood on Friday.

And antibiotics are making me feel grim!

I am post menopausal too but feel better on HRT than without it. Also have other problems that it is supposed to help.

I once had blood in my urine, but I couldn't see it, some years ago, and the next test was clear. No idea why it happened. Had a test recently and no blood found.
Hope it's just a one off.

Which antibiotics are you on? I,m sure they have become more intolerant than they used to be.

Macrodontin - can't remember the generic name, but its known to make people feel ill. They usually give Trimethoprim, but last time symptoms came back so they changed me to this one - which seemed to do the trick!

Yes, I felt better on HRT (took it from 48-50) but mostly feel pretty good these days, if stiffer Smile

Hi
HRT is no longer helping my stiffness anymore, pity.

Haven't taken your antibiotics so just looked them up on Google for side effects - POOR YOU- they sound dreadful. Just noting the name to be put on my "allergy list" !!

Expect DR assumes you have a urine infection - hope it has cleared on Friday, and your course of ABs is soon over.
Good luck

All sorts of things can cause blood in urine - uti, kidney infection, kidney stone etc. It's something I get quite a lot (in my case generally from kidney cysts) but each time my gp insists on referring me to check whether or not the cause is something different. It really isn't something that can be ignored.

As for a cystoscopy, in my experience the procedure sounds an awful lot worse than it actually is. You'll be given a squirt of local anaesthetic prior to the camera being inserted and whilst you'll feel pressure (and possibly some discomfort) there's no real pain. Also, you get to see the inside of your bladder in full technicolour on a tv screen!

Seriously though, try not to worry about it, but do attend the appointment and make sure it's followed up.

Best of luck.

Thank you both Smile

Weirdly, I remembered something that happened a few hours before the pink wee episode - namely, that I was lifting/stretching whilst sitting on dd2's bedroom floor (frantic attempt to tidy up) and felt a very sharp stab in bladder area - at the time, I thought it was something to do with old c-section scar and ignored it. I've since heard that blood in wee can be the result of strenuous exercise (!) so maybe a possible link?!?

Either way, one more day of horrible ABs (which have turned wee a lovely shade of fluourescent greenish yellow) then repeat dipstick on Friday morning. Will update - its lovely to have a hand held, thank you again.
