Breast pain. Not sure what to do next.

I've had breast soreness now in a specific section of my left breast for about 7 months. I've had an ultrasound under a consultant who said it was all healthy breast tissue - so not cancer.

I'm 5 months pregnant but the problem started before this. I'm 31.

It's far from painful enough to become upset but it but it's driving me mad as to what's causing it. Like I said it's just one part of one breast and I'm worried it IS cancer as its not resolving. It's constant and doesn't vary in intensity.

I phoned a breast cancer helpline and the nurse was very reassuring saying that some women do have breast pain limited to one area.

So I suppose my question is does anyone else have this? Should I just put it to bed so to speak and accept it or is further investigation needed?

Go to your GP, who will refer you the breast care clinic, do this tomorrow, as it is the only way to put your mind at rest,

Please do this, because if by some remote possibility you do have a problem the faster you deal with it the better, medical science is amazing, but you have to access it to give it a chance.

GP won't necessarily refer to breast clinic if he/she feels there's no cause for concern (I had unexplained breast pain a few yeArs ago- gp examined me and couldn't find anything suspicious)
It's always best to get breast thins checked,so do go and make an appointment. Remember too that breast cancer is very rarely painful.

Thanks for your replies. Sorry I hadn't been clear - i've seen a consultant at the breast clinic, had an ultrasound and they found healthy tissue. I'm concerned as to why this pain won't go away and whether I should insist on being referred back? Any advice appreciated.

Ask to be referred back, until the cause is found.

Ask to be referred back- I have been assured by gp in the past that cancers very rarely cause pain in breasts, but of course this is not normal and it is worrying you so Yanbu to want it sorted.

Thank you. Everyone I talk to about it - specialist independent nurse included - just keeps saying 'forget it and move on'. Well I can't forget it unfortunately as it's still there 7 months on and I still don't know the cause. I feel worried now that it's been left too late.

I've had a lot of breast pain that sounds similar to your's and have also been to the breast clinic who found nothing! I went back to the gp and happened to see a different female gp - she said that I had cystic tissue (think that's what she called it) and that it's very common and can cause pain. Might be worth asking your gp about this? Since she told me this my breast pain has calmed down a lot (although I still get it), so think I may have been focusing on it too much as I was so worried! MrsB that actually really helps. That's what it feels like. The breast tissue. I bf for nine months with my DS who is now 19 months and I had mastitis quite a few times in the same breast. I wonder if that's what kicked it off.

Mine is sore. That is all - not burning or stabbing and on some days if I don't squish it I barely would nice it's there (but it always is just to varying degrees). How would you describe yours Mrs B?

I just feel if I go back to the GPs all they can really do at a push is refer me back to the breast clinic but as I was seen by a top consultant I feel a bit like I'm wasting their time!

My pain is like to the top left, as I look down, in my left breast. It's hard to describe, a heavy ache I suppose. It seems to kick in in the second half of my cycle. I have also had three abscesses at my nipple which my gp now thinks were the cysts rupturing! I didn't get any mastitis after having my twins, but wasn't very successful with bf though! I've always been prone to sore breasts before my period. If you have seen a consultant and been scanned etc I'm sure all is fine, but you could always go and discuss with your gp if you are still concerned.

I have had some months were it is there all through my cycle though.
