MRI help please

My dd started uni in Sept & found a fleshy lump on her shoulder. She has had an MRI today after a referral fo from the ultrasound department. Her new GP checked it and referred her for the ultrasound, but noone else from the hospital have seen her.

The results are being sent to her GP. Is this the usual procedure? Dh & I imagined that once an MRI was involved you would be assigned a consultant within the hospital. Will the GP just see her to refer her back to the hospital?

We are 3 hours away & would like to support her as much as possible, but that means we can't go to everything. I guess what I'm asking is what's likely to be discussed by the GP? Anything scary?

When I had an MRI scan and an echocardiogram, the results were sent to GP. With the latter they found nothing so did not need to see a specialist at the hospital. But with the former I did have to go back to discuss treatment/op

Yes, normal for imaging to come back to the referring GP. If theres anything found that they can't deal with, they will refer her onto the appropriate consultant at the hospital

If her gp referred her it would go to them, if she was sent by a consultant it would go to them or that's what happened with me. I was referred for one and another consultant checked it as I had ages to wait to go back.
