OK I succeeded in inserting it OK. It didn't feel very uncomfortable, but just not completely comfortable iyswim ... I felt a bit heavy/dragging. Anyway I left it in for about half an hour, then successfully removed it - Phew! Grin

Do you think I should take is gently, and just try for half an hour at a time, then have a rest. Or should I keep trying until I get it in 'properly' and it feels entirely comfortable?

put it in the dishwasher instead and your MIL will think its an eye bath

Rhubarb · 03/04/2006 20:30

Reminds me of the time I caught my mil wandering around with one of my bra pads in her hand! She'd pulled it out of the washing machine with our washing, and was now going from person to person asking what it was!!!!!!!!!
Obviously I denied all knowledge, watch her throw it in the bin eventually, then fished it out later!

notasheep · 03/04/2006 20:32

dp thought you put your mooncup in your knickers!

for sterilising in a hotel, maybe try what i used to do with sterilising breast pump - just sterilising tablets, from Boots or similar, and a pot of cold water for 30mins.

but you don't have to sterilise it til you've finished your period anyway so you could leave that til you got home.

Rhubarb, one of my friends found her family using her breast pads as coasters. they had wine-glass shaped red wine rings on them for ages after.

Rhubarb · 03/04/2006 20:37

pmsl at breast pads for coasters!!!!!!!!!

fuzzywuzzy, it might surprise your friend to know that you're not bleeding at exactly the same rate throughout the day so the few seconds that it takes to get to a basin or preferably (like Carolinamooncup says) wipe it with some loo role won't cause too much of a problem Grin

monkeytrousers · 03/04/2006 22:01

oh, just caught up with the sterilising. TBH, I don't sterilise it. I rinse it at night under some hot water with a squirt of antibac handwash and at the end of my period put it in the dishwasher.

Do I sound like a dirty scrubber?

fuzzywuzzy · 03/04/2006 22:04

Re; the girl I work with, she is lovely and 21 so totally squirmish to the idea, however an older friend seemed pretty much converted to the idea, sadly she's hit her menopause though, another friend is too freaked by the thought of the suction she thinks she may end up turned inside out (gross).....

Dunno what is with me and why I'm even discussing the mooncup in rl, there is a very real possibility that I am mad.....

monkeytrousers · 03/04/2006 22:15

I think young'uns do tend to think of their fanny's differently than us thats had babies, if you'll pardon my french. Grin

Breasts too, I'd imagine. Heh, their turn will come..evilGrin

i WAS unsure what the point of it would be if i tried to pull it out and it just leaked. Had to check coil threads before so it doesnt freak me. I like the idea that it is better for the environment but i dont often use tampons.

fennel · 04/04/2006 12:05

LOL at suction turning the friend inside out Grin

i like the mooncup far more than yukky tampons. nothing icky to dispose of.

and also it has to be better than washable sanitary towels.
