DS teething ATM, and his poor bottom has been sore for a few days now. Just this evening though, the sore spots have gone white in the middle. This is thrush right? Have bunged some canesten on before he went to bed, but is there anything else it could be I should worry about? TIA!

Don't know, Flossam, but poor DS - hope he's better soon. Bloody teething!

melissasmummy · 29/03/2006 21:45

It just sounds like the teethare moving more to the surface, ready to pop thru at any time.

My dd had a white patch as you described yesturday & when I looked to dat the cusp of the tooth is thru.

u bumped while i was researching!!

nhs direct say thrush in an infant is displayed as a persistant nappy rash and/or creamy yellow spots in or around the mouth.
i think what you describe is bad tething nappy rash which has gone a bit nasty. must be very sore for him.
would suggest lots of bottom airing- lie him on a towel!, thats what i do!- and nice regular baths to cleanse it, more frequent nappy changes and keep putting the cream on. Some creams work best if you dont plaster them on. we tend to slather them everywhere, thinking thats best, when to work properly they need to be applied thinly as otherwise they just clog up the nappy so it cant keep the bum dry.
hope this helps, this is what i did and was gone in 2/3 days.
mine has lots of regular airing time now and he never gets it now.
x

Opps, didn't read your OP very well Floss!

Missed that part about his bottom being the problem!

Flossam · 29/03/2006 21:53

Thanks SM, hunker. MM, I think we are talking about different ends Grin Wink.

Haven't been bottom airing, but am in love with metanium cream, normally works a dream overnight. No joy so far. Don't think I can bottom air right now actually, we are moving on the weekend and have had the carpets cleaned!! Grin I'll carry on with the canesten and see how it goes, maybe it will be better in the morning. I know all about not over liberal applications of creams, I work in the NHS and they are very quick to tell us this! Grin

One thing you can try is.. boil up some pearl barley in lots of water & let the liquid cool. Offer him the liquid to drink, it will help neutralize his system so his urine won't be as acidic, helping with healing process.

You will have to make the liquid every 2 days or so as it won't keep for longer than 3 days. It will settle in the beaker, just shake to mix up again.

thats interesting mm. thank you. perhaps i need to go off and get the old natural yoghurt n all! Smile

My aunt recommended it, apparently she used to have it alot when she & her siblings were ill.

It seemed to work for DD.

Good Luck

\link{http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T081400.asp\Here} is a great page on nappy rash, all the different kinds, and appropriate treatments for each.

Thanks for that NCQ. My gut feeling is that it is thrush. I am sure I have seen it in other places on patients and it has had a similar appearance to this. DS dosen't seem too bothered about it (was a few days ago mind) so I'll give the canesten a couple of days. If no joy will go to drs on Fri. Thanks for help! Smile
