Eye floaters

I seem to have developed a couple of red/brown eye floaters, one a wee blob the other stringy, noticed them first on a rare sunny day and am now very aware of them. A bit worried as my mum had a retinal detachment a few weeks ago and had to have two ops to fix it. Don't seem to have any vision loss but will be going to the optometrist to check. Anyone have these and it's wasn't anything sinister? I hope they go away, very irritating, keep making me think I have something on my glasses!

You need to get to an optician or eye specialist immediately. It might be a detached retina or could be any number of things. You will be advised how to minimise further damage and will get treatment. Please don't delay.

My sister had a detached retina but didn't realise and didn't get it looked at for ages. She is now blind in that eye.

They are probably nothing, but you need to get it checked ASAP as if it is something it could be serious.

I have high occular pressure so get my eyes checked at the hospital every 9 months. I have had several floaters for years now. One looks like a little money spider and others look like railway tracks.My doctor is not concerned at all.
They are really annoying in the sun.

I think if it was retinal detachment you would have hundreds of floaters, like a snow storm. I have quite a few and they are very annoying on sunny days, but not dangerous.

Best to get it checked out of course, but I wouldn't worry too much about it if it's a few.

I have recently developed one of these and got my eyes checked out on Friday. Eyes apparently absolutely perfect (!) but they were very thorough in order to rule out any vitreous/retina detachment. Get an appointment at the opticians and get it checked over.

I have a friend who is an optician with her own shop who will fit me in for a check. Not too worried as haven't had any flashes. Bit annoying if it's part off middle aged degeneration along with grey hair and crumbling teeth!
