What on earth are these swellings? Help please!

Yesterday I woke up with swelllings under my jaw. They are quite large (I look like a bullfrog!, and tender when I press them. However, I don't feel ill, or have a fever, so I've no idea what might be causing them.

Anyone have any ideas? I don't particularly want to visit the doctor...

Sounds like swollen glands - maybe you're starting with a virus or something.

Er...swollen glands, mumps, wisdom teeth? Could be anything - you really should see a doctor.

vwvic · 27/03/2006 11:17

I don't have any wisdom teeth- yanked out years ago. I've had mumps I think. It's just odd as I felt like I was about to come down with something last week, but it went away, and now I feel fine but have swellings. Perhaps the docs it is, but what's the betting I won't be able to get an appointment?

could be abcesses

SorenLorensen · 27/03/2006 11:21

Well if you think you've had mumps (I think you're usually quite poorly with mumps anyway) and you've no wisdom teeth then it probably is some viral/swollen gland thingie - so if you don't feel poorly you could just leave the GP and see how you get on. Could be the beginning of a virus or the tail end...

It could be your lymph nodes. it would probably best to see a doctor just to be checked out.
