Ideas for what to feed a sick child?

Both mine ill, off food for about a week now. I haven't been pushing it, letting their body lead the way, but sometimes they fancy something and can't tell me what. I think they would like something other than chicken soup and crackers.

What do you tempt your child with when they are ill?

toast? aples? mine won't be tempted so not much help... Hope they get better soon.

Depends on what wrong. Min eis good with ready brek type thing reasonably bland with good energy to slow release.

Other than that chicken soup always works for me.

hi, usually stick to things like toast or boiled eggs. i find when mine are ill they eat very little but then make up for it when there better by eating loads.

Thanks for the input - we have been doing toast, boiled egg, etc. but it has been about 2 wks now! Guess I will just keep trying.

when DS was ill last time I gave him french toast with syrup on it. Nice and sweet but with eggs etc so still good for him. he ate some of it at least...

lucy5 · 24/03/2006 18:40

pasta with a bit of butter and grated cheese is the only thing I have managed to get dd to eat.

Bedshaped · 24/03/2006 18:41

baked potato with gravy
toast and banana
porridge

jmum6 · 24/03/2006 19:01

Jelly and ice cream because it's cool and soothing.
And something fizzy to drink as the bubbles sooth throats.

I know not very nutritional though!!

Nightynight · 24/03/2006 19:19

I always loved tinned fruit as a child when sick.

I've just started giving dd Floradix Kindervital - might be a coincidence but her appetite has increased massively in the last 24 hours. She has been ill on and off for about 5 weeks and her appetite has been very poor for about the last 10 days or so.

It's such a worry isn't it?

jennifersofia · 25/03/2006 22:49

Such good ideas of things I had forgotten! Will def. get some of the kindervital, and will try the baked pot (with jelly for afters!)
Thanks ladies. Now if you could just get the food down her...

Isn't there a diet that's recomended for children who have been sick...
toast, apple, errr 2 other things, think it's called after the acronym?
Will search.

Clary · 25/03/2006 23:52

OK I'm thinking of the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce and toast, see \link{http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRAT_diet\here} but in fact it's more for diarhoea (sp?) than sickness so may be no use.

zippitippitoes · 25/03/2006 23:57

rich tea biscuits

cream crackers

toast cottage cheese
