How to deal with a bad back?

I have a really bad back at the moment, partly I think from the heavy bags I carry. I also have tight knots in my shoulders and mid-back. Its really starting to get me down. Apart from using a better bag to carry my work stuff, how can I strengthen my back and release all the tension?

Try something like Pilatesor Core Conditioning classes.Great for strengthening your core muscles. My DH had bad back for years and started these and sitting on an exercise ball at work and transformed the problem.
