Verrucas

I've been having freezing treatment on 5 verrucas. 3 of them have now gone completely black. Is this normal? Is it meaning I may be rid of them soon?

No idea :o Just envious you have treatment for them! The nurse at our surgery sent me away as it apparently doesn't work. I felt a bit daft for asking!

Our surgery have a warts and verrucas clinic. We all grin at each other knowing why we are there x

My left foot needs severing, got ringworm on the top of it and a ruddy verruca on the bottom

Hi, when the verruca goes black its close to falling off, so hopefully its any day now. GP's don't seem to like freezing them now, as they say will go on there own, which is what they said about my ds verruca's, I put 100% tea tree oil on them (he had five large one's) and after a couple of weeks they turned black and fell off.

My chiropodist says to cover them in duct tape in between treatments. Not sure why. He said definitely not elastoplast though, as it has a high zinc content, which can cause metal allergies.

Hateful things.

I tried the duct tape as on it's on it's supposed to strangle the verruca but it didn't work because of the odd angles they are in.

3 out of the 5 are black at long last.

Jeeze I thought this was gonna be a one off hack and freeze

I have had one on the ball of my foot for oh, about 10 years or more! I can't seem to get rid of it.

Grown a new one in the past few months too. Have been bazooking it., but no joy yet.

Sounds like yours are on the move though if they have turned black.

When I was a kid - maybe about 9/10- my (v old school ) GP injected the ball of my foot and cut out the verruca. I then had to walk home. My new trainers were sodden with blood. I reckon it is the same one I have now - 30 years down the line. It bloody hurt.

I have bought the freezy stuff you do at home, but not tried it yet. Has anyone had any success? I have the Boots Verruca and Wart Freeze spray.

My DD had had one for nearly 2 years and it was getting very painful. I tried everything, but eventually it was banana skin that did it.

Cut a bit of banana skin off, stick it white side down over the verucca overnight with some duct tape. Take everything off in the morning.

Repeated for just over 2 weeks and then one day they just went black and fell out. Works a treat.

Shrimps, I had an episode about 20 years ago, where I got one and it just wouldn't go. I had every treatment under the sun, and not only did it keep coming back, I developed a tonne of new ones too. It was horrific. It was then that a colleague recommended me to a chiropodist, who has become a lifelong friend.

It took him about 6 months of burning my sole away with acid. Seriously, I had huge holes in my feet where the flesh had been burnt away, and eventually he discovered it was some rare type with tentacle hooks that burrow right through the layers of skin.

It was awful at the time, but with persistence and his expertise, it got sorted. Perhaps you might have the same?

I've had them for about seven years, I'm currently trying cider vinegar. This morning I counted them.

They turn black when they are dead, you can pick them out with tweazers (uggh, but compelling all the same). My dd has six at the moment, three of them have just appeared on her toes. Haven't tried anything yet other than spradic tea-tree oil, but when older dd had them (28 of them in total) I took her to a homoeopath and she had a remedy , then very quickly they all turned black. her foot was full of tiny holes, which was like something from the links one sees on here whenever lotus seed pods get mentioned.
Am taking small dd to see homoeopath shortly, so will report back if the same happens.

Yes I have seen a chiropodist who did nothing more than a quick file and a dollop of sylic acid. I can do that myself. It did nothing andi think tbh he was a bit overwhelmed by the state of my foot and didn't want me to come back.

I've tried marigold oil, tea tree, banana skin, duct tape and of course freezing. Fingers crossed for cider vinegar, I'm only on day three.

ds3had a huge verruca on his toe ...even the gp was impressed by it ...we named it 'barry rooka' as it seemed he was here to stay despite us trying everything and anything to shift him .....one day ds3exclaimed barrys gone and indeed he had!! i dont know what finally shifted him tho.

I read that veruccas need light to survive, so covering them in duct tape should kill them. I have been covering mine for a few months, it is a lot smaller, but is still there. I think I might try the banana skin.

Veruccas do not need light to survive.

It is a virus, it will go when your body realises it is there. Untill then you are stuck with them.

It is like a when people have a cold. They take a cold medication eg lemsip etc but the cold goes when the immune system fights it not because you took lemsip. Veruccas go the same way eg despite treatment not because of treatment.

I dont treat them at all. I refuse to get involved in anything when I know I am not really helping.

Not really no, it hides in the skin cells and encourages proliferation of keratin. The immune system doesnt know it's there. Cutting them down with a scalpel is meant to release fragments of the virus into the blood stream so the immune system will recoginise it as foreign but ime it doesnt work. If it did the treatment would work first time wouldnt it? Like if you have a vaccination, one exposure and your immune for most things for ages so the immune system must work really quickly when it does find a foreign organism.

I've got them down to a smaller size but they dont actually go. Sometimes patients tell me they used to have a vp but it's still there. I can see it because I'm closer to the foot.

I had a girl of 12 have silver nitrate treatment and they went but 2 months later she was back with more of them.

The general NHS line is not to treat, their not being mean just practical.

My daughter has a huge verruca right on the tip of her nail on her toe x our doc prescribed 'duofilm' on the 12/11/14 x Leaflet says treat daily but doc said to do it twice weekly x We've done as the doctor ordered and this week (today is the 20/12/14) the verruca has turned black and started to lift around the edges (like the skin is peeling around it). So thats roughly 9-10 treatments over approx 5 weeks. Me on the other hand, have had one for over a year in the hard skin on the ball of my foot and no matter how much I ped-egg, pumice, pedi-pro and treat it, it just won't budge x
