can I just check dosage for calpol and ibruprofen when used together and any tips for lowering a temperature.

How much and when do I give them. do I give a sppon of calpol and then a spoon of ibrupofen or do I have to wait a certain amount of time inbetween. Dd has tonsillitus and im really struggling to keep her temperature below 39. She's 5 by the way, ive done the damp cloth thing, stripped her down but not doing much good.

how much calpol are you giving? i;d give the full amount of calpol you can, then if her temp hasnt receeded in an hour give a dose of neurofen. calpol can be given every 4hours (IIRC) and neurofen every 6 hours, so its better to space it out a bit IMO.

deffo full dosage of both at same time, saw paed at a&e for dd2 last week (similar prob to yours, but plus rash - all fine now, well chest infection), in fact they gave her more ibuprofen than i would have

Have any of your kids had really mottled skin when they have had a high fever? she also has really cold hands, which is a bit odd. God I'm turning into a hypochondriac!

dd2 was very pale and her hands/feet alternated really cold/v hot. can't remembe any mottling. just a non-blanching rash that turned out to be nothing serious, but glad got it checked out. do you have an out of hours dr you could chat about this with over the phone?

No unfortunately i'm in Spain and the only out of hours service is the A and E about half an hours drive away and to be honest, I'd rather not put dd through it as the whole of the Costa Del Sol goes there as local provision is poor. We could be there for hours.

Yes but she wont eat them, she is sipping water though.

A nurse friend of mine says the normal dose of calpol and ibrupofen together but only every 6 hours.

use the dose it says but intersperse them .. because then there's always an analgesic to numb the pain

so nurofen every 6 hours and calpol every 4 hours means you can some form of relief every 2 to 3 hours

i think my nurse friend recommends both every 6 hours as there is less chance of getting the doeses wrong. Thats what the tell parents when they take their kids home from the ward.
