Varicose Vein removal

Hi, has anyone had this done and could you tell me how long was your recovery, when you were able to walk normally etc.....
Just wanted to guage how long I'll need off and if I could wing it by only having a couple of days off?

Hi My husband had a significant varicose vein sorted a few months ago. Initially he had the vein mapping done then had ELVT. He said it was an uncomfortable process but not too painful. After it was done he drove home (1 hr) without any trouble. He had to wear these special compression stockings for a specific time and found that his leg ached quite a bit. He had 1 day off work and also as as an avid runner stopped serious training for a week but did do light exercise as instructed with no problem from the word go. About 2 weeks later he started getting 'bruise' type pain that was relieved on a scheduled follow up visit when they drained some of the old blood from the sealed vein in various locations.

I am not sure if his experience is standard as I would guess it could vary on treatment type, vein size and location.

Thankyou for you reply, sounds great , but unfortunatly I am having the full crotchet hook treatment, general anesthetic etc.
I just can't really afford to have any time off work and was wondering if I could get away with 2/3 days off.

I had a laser treatment done privately on one leg last april. Unfortunately, I was one of the unlucky 5% to have an inflammation of the treated vein, and was out of action for a week. The pain lasted probably another week more.
You'll probably need a week off for the classic surgery at least.
Incidentally my leg looks lovely now!

I have no idea about the varicose vein part of the surgery but it may take a bit of time to get over the general anesthetic depending on how long the surgery may take. If your 2 or 3 days takes you up to a weekend then you have a couple more days that may be manageable but this is probably a time to see what your surgeon says and go with that. I hope all goes well.
