Big toenail fell off!!!!

I dropped a heavy box on my big toe about 18months ago, it started to turn black and I couldn't even cut it it was that hard. It then started to come loose from the top and after a shower today it fell off when I dried my foot! It didn't hurt and there is a new one growing up its really small tho. Has this ever happened to anyone? Should I visit the chiropodist to get it checked out?

It'll grow through eventually! It's usually fine but if you think part of the nailbed is damaged (the nail will grow strangely) it's worth seeing someone.

Dont worry, this is perfectly normal.

The new nail may not grow 'normally' if the nail bed is damaged but that wont become clear for a while. It can grow thicker than usual or curve to one side.

You can do nothing but wait.
