Dd complaining of sore tummy

Dd (4) has been complaining of a pain in her tummy for over a week. It comes and goes. She says the pain is right at the top of her tummy, sort of across the bottom of her ribs, sometimes it seems to be more on her left side.

I made her a doctors appointment for today, but then cancelled it this morning as she hadn't complained all weekend. Of course she mentioned it again this evening.

Should I take her to the doctors just to be sure? It isn't a very sore pain, more of an ache I think. She was a bit constipated - could that cause this sort of pain?

Not sure, but DD1 had a bad tummy ache last year for a few days and it wasn't until she got a temerature too that we found out it was a urine infection.
She was 4 at the time, and was vague about wher the ache was.

Thanks - I hope it isn't a UTI! She seems fine apart from the ache at the moment. I did wonder if she mentions it because she gets attention from me!

The left side is the descending colon I think, so yes if she was constipated it could be that that was causing the pain. DD has been constipated a lot and has complained of tummy ache

She hasn't been on antibiotics lately has she? This can cause tummy pain until you give them probiotics

UTI's can give referred pain to the eppigastric and sides. On the left side (apart from the kidney at the back) there is not ery much that could be causing pain except the colon and stomach. Constipation would fit with this. However I would say if the pain continues it would be worth investigating by gp.

Thanks. I think it may have been the constipation then, as she has been complaining less since she went to the loo!

I was slightly concerned as it was hard to tell if she was complaining about her chest or her tummy at times. And I am a bit paranoid about her as she has had heart surgery! Another thing I was wondering - her scar is across the bottom of her chest (a bit higher I think than where she was rubbing) - could this cause pain? It isn't a new scar.

And meant to say, no she hasn't been on antibiotics.

A scar from chest surg, shouldn't really give long term pain.
Eppigastric is the upper abdomen where you would expect to get heart burn. Sound like she has just been constipated. my dn(6) gets a 'sore' tummy with school days she does not want to go into. or if she's been bad, wee monkey.
Sound like its been constipation, but if it happens again you could give your gp a ring if only to put your mind at rest!

Thanks :) I think you're right it must have been constipation. She seems fine now, but if she starts complaining again I will take her in to the GP for peace of mind.
