Is my GP quite mad?

I posted yesterday cos my 7 week old breastfed DS has not had a dirty nappy for 36 hours now, and he usually goes every feed. Replies told me there was nothing to worry about (apart from cleaning him up when he does go ) but have been for our post natal check up today and when I mentioned it to the GP, he said to give him some fresh orange juice!?
OJ? Is the man mad?

My hv told me not to eat grapes when i was bf because it would make her poo all runny. Maybe if you ate grapes it would pass through you and stop him from getting constipated?

fairydust · 27/12/2003 14:24

i was told to put a table spoon of OJ in a bottle of water for dd when she was 4weeks and it worked a treat

Well... I got a friend who is a GP and she was mad when her mother give her daughter orange juice because of the risk of the allergies, and the girl was 9m old.... I wouldn't risk an allergy even if the bowels get better.... I would try the grapes instead, or somebody told me that boiling a prune with a lot of water and give the baby a bit of it would work, however... as I was not sure I didn't do it, he was not pooing often at the time but didn't seem to be bothered by it...

Sounds old fashioned advice to me. I've spent most of my adult life in Easter Europe and it was quite usual there to give a constipated baby diluted orange juice (it worked!). Or stuff soap pellets up its bum (I compromised on glycerine suppositories, but DD1 was 2 at the time).

Haven't read the next posted messages (pushed for time). GP has know knowledge obviously about breastfeeding and is still in the dark ages regarding baby care. IGNORE HIM.

thanks Mears, am ignoring him!
