Hi, just had cholesterol test and it is 7.7. Any tips on what foods can help reduce this result?

increase oily fish and avocado, porridge, walnuts, almonds to improve "good" cholesterol

reduce saturated fat intake - cheese, butter, fatty meat, cream filled biscuits, cakes and biscuits in general. Use olive oil or rapeseed oil for cooking.

Hi TheLightPassenger, thank you for your reply and your helpful tips. Right well we will see how that goes.

Have you had a thyroid test? And vit d test? Both worth doing when cholesterol is high, esp if it is high 'bad' cholesterol

My DH has high cholesterol, but does lots of exercise, which raises your good cholesterol and also the triglycerides, which then counteracts the bad cholesterol.it is the ratio between good and bad that is important, not the overall total.

Op I have a friend who has gone from 8 to under 3 using the engine 2 diet only, if you look this diet up on youtube it comes up with a big explination

KarRose · 04/10/2012 15:46

Thank you for all of your helpful tips and comments. My doctor said she would like to get the cholesterol reading down, but isn't over worried as the good and bad reading is OK. I will look up the engine 2 diet, as I still worry and would like to see it come down. I wish I could just find a recipe book so that I can work out what I need to cook to help. I am doing all the usual, but obviously need to to do more, and I know I need to exercise. Starting swimming next week.

if its an incentive mine was 6.1 I have lost about a stone in weight and it has come down to 5.5

Elibean · 05/10/2012 17:30

Mine was 6 last November - but again, the ratio was pretty good, and GP wasn't worried. It helps that I don't have any of the other risk factors, other than a mild family history (don't smoke, not overweight).

I've changed my diet, and increased exercise, anyway - and am going to ask for a repeat test in a few weeks' time: will let you know if it helped!
