Please - tell me what drugs work for you.

I've had headaches and migraines for years, probably induced by screen use/ squinting through dirty specs/ dehydration/ tiredness (i.e. normal life). Have mostly just got on with life, or taken prochlorperazine, codeine and nortriptyline & stayed in bed when things got too bad.

I have just moved countries and (despite being a doctor) don't have prescribing power here... have been feeling off for weeks, and it's turned into a massive migraine in the last few days. Don't have any drugs, stupid GP has just told me "you're just tired, stop taking daily paracetamol and your headache will go away" despite me telling him I don't take paracetamol or indeed anything daily except the mini-pill (Cerazette, which I've been on for years, so I don't think it's that).

So I need to manage this myself - i.e. do a rapid-fire visit to a GP and ask for a trial of drugs that might work. Sumatriptan?

Nortriptyline used to control them fairly effectively, but that was daily low doses - and I'm not sure if it's available where i am.

Hi Anna. I hope you're feeling a bit better. Sumatrapin for me, but I have to take it at onset. I know a lot of people recommend/swear by Syndol for migraine. Also, you could try Migraleve - both are available OTC.

Zomig works for me. I have been told never to take Codine due to the chance of rebound headaches

Dh swears by volterol

3 Asprin dissolved in a small glass of coke works wonders!
