Has anyone done it? It just seems like you can eat anything apart from cake, chocolate etc. it was a bit confusing but everything else seemed to be "free food".
I want to lose 2 stone in the 13 weeks to 25/12 (can't bring myself to say the c word in Sept).
Can I do it?

It's fab! I started last week and have lost 3.5 pound. My friend lost 7.5 in two weeks so it definitely works. Someone I know lost a stone in two weeks so two stone in 13 wks is definitely possible. I found it a bit hard to get my head round at first after years of weight watchers but you are less hungry on this and the results speak for themselves. Good luck! :)

That's encouraging, thanks. I need to do something to get some weight off!

Well, yes, the principles of it are sound - however there is no such thing as a 'free' food. All food has a calorie content so just because SW tell you that pasta and potatoes are 'free' it doesn't automatically render them calorie free!

They work on the assumption that you won't stuff your face with the 'free' foods - and will stop when you feel satisfied. This doesn't work for some people though, because they can eat lots and lots with no 'off' switch. SW does not teach you portion control and it can be very heavy on carbs.

That said, it is a good, healthy eating plan. I prefer calorie counting and keeping an eye on carbs. I also never eat white carbs nor do I snack. I am currently 9 stone 2 from almost 13 stone at the start of this year.

Good luck with it!

I disagree it does teach you portion co trol as you czn'f just fill your plate full of potatoes as you have to have the same amount of you meat and your veg/salad.

Yes you could do a huge pot of chilli but again if you did a ton of mince and rice ANC z tiny bit of veg you won't lose weight. I often find u can't fit any mince in my pan as I have so much veg (onion, carrot, peppers, mushrooms, celery) so but cheaper not using quits so much meat!!

I lost two and z half stone in 12 weeks as I bought the 12 week countdown when I first did it after havi v mh son. I also naturally found my bigger plates of food got a big smaller over time.

I agree it seems odd being able to eat such a variety of foods but love the fact that all of my meals have at least a third of salad/veg and that mostly my snacks are fruit. It makes me feel like at last I am doing things 'right' not just keeping a healthy weight, but keeping a healthy body and hopefully healthy heart and also that my children see me eating lots of fruit xbx veg as they do knowing that this is 'normal' and they eat the same Smile

Gah excuse the spelling, had eye op on mon do czn'f quite see some of the autocorrects Blush

numptymark1 · 20/09/2012 10:49

I put weight on with slimming world as I'm rubbish with portion control

I had big dinner plates and would fill them with just too much food -balanced bot too big

I bought some new plates and followed at 1 less principle
1 less potato
1 less spoon of rice etc

found myself satisfied from smaller amouts of food and lost 4st over a year

newmum001 · 20/09/2012 11:07

Slimming world does teach portion control. 1/3 of the plate should be super free food (veg etc) and 2/3 should be free food (potatos and meat etc) its a great diet once you get used to it. I lost 2 stone in 11 weeks. Weight loss has slowed down now but im nearly at my target so thats to be expected.

Good luck with it and they really do mean it when they say eat as much as you can but try to snack on superfree foods.

Ragwort · 20/09/2012 11:09

Good luck - I am also doing the countdown and would like to lose two stone in 12 weeks. I lost 6lb in the first week Smile. You do have to be careful about portion control, but if you are sensible it is a good plan to follow.

It helps me to do exercise as well.

controlpantsandgladrags · 20/09/2012 12:33

In my experience slimming world works really well if you follow it properly. I've lost 2 stone in the last 6 months and have probably only stuck to it 50% of the time. Quite annoyed with myself because if I'd done it properly I would be at target by now!

newpup · 20/09/2012 13:11

5 and a half stone loss here! I lost 5 stone in 9 months and the last half has taken 2 months. SW is a very healthy eating plan if you follow it correctly. Lots of fruit and veg, fish and lean meat. You can have treats in moderation and nothing is banned.

I combined the plan with excercise 3 times a week and hey presto! Good Luck!

ProudNeathGirl · 20/09/2012 13:37

Thanks for your good wishes. I remain sceptical, but people keep telling me it works, so giving it a go. 2st in 13 weeks should be doable I thnk.
