Asthmatic mums - are your children asthmatic too?

Neither of my DDs are asthmatic. Not yet anyway. DD1 is 4 and DD2 is almost 2. DD2 is quite chesty generally so I am wondering if she is going to be asthmatic.
Are your children asthmatic?

dh is/was asthmatic (his asthma disappeared when VAD was fitted which makes me worried as apparently DCM is sometimes misdiagnosed as asthma in teenage boys}, dd1 is asthmatic.

IT is very difficult to diagnose children with athsma. GEnerally atopic children can have asthma like symptoms in responce to a viral infection. this does not mean that they have asthma or that they will neccesarily develop asthma. they often grow out of it. Tey not ot worry too muc, I know its hard not to though.

I'm not worried tbh as I know how to manage my asthma. Yes I would prefer it if neither DD had it but hey, we can cope if one of them does.

AS yet I dont know if my little ones are asthmatic although with DS it has been queried. He is 2 and has some breathing probs etc but is too young to get ot do peak flow and no idea of triggers etc.
Can only go on experience from my mum. She is asthmatic, I am asthmatic and my baby sister is asthmatic although my middle sister has no problems.

My mum's asthmatic. My younger brother and I are both asthmatic too, his developed in childhood mine in my early twenties - my elder brother (the only 1 of us to be breastfed) is not and has never been asthmatic. This was one of my biggest motivations to breastfeed DS;I feel sure there's a link.

DH is asthmatic, so is DS2 (but only viral asthma, which is lessening with age - touch wood). DS1 has had a few asthmatic episodes and is the more generally atopic - food allergies and intolerances, skin allergies to suncreams etc.

Dd1 is asthmatic. She's 12. Her younger sister and brother aren't, despite being hospitalised with bronchiolitis - apparently an indicator. Her asthma isn't as bad as mine though.

I've taken more notice of my wheezing since dh's aunt died during an attack recently - her husband couldn't find her inhaler in time. I've been a bit more responsible ever since.

i do worry about it. I developed asthma later, at 10, and worry my 18month old ds might develop it. I don't know what the risk percentage is. I grew up with loads of animals in the house and think that might have triggered it, so daren't have pets now.

no, I've been asthmatic since very early childhood and none of my three children are. My dd2 is very prone to chest infections but doesn't usually get anz wheeziness with them, so I think they've all got away without.
I also have eczema (still - but not as bad as I used to as a child/teenager) but dd1 was the only one who got it too and has pretty much outgrown it now at 6.

I've been asthmatic since about 10 years of age, get hay fever, animal allergies and (not very bad) ecxema and was very worried about ds - he's nearly 4 and has never had any problems, in fact, as I sit here with a chest infection (2nd of my pregnancy), he's off at nursery fit as a fiddle - he's rarely ill. My parents were both smokers, and I think this had a major impact.
