Vitamin supplements for babies & toddlers: your thoughts please

Keep reading the advice on vitamins from 6 months on. Have never given any to DD1 (2y), who has a varied diet; DD2 is 6m and breastfed. But I take a supplement myself so am beginning to wonder. What's the official line, and what are your thoughts on it?

My DS is 13 months old - has a very healthy and varied diet - but pediatrician did recommend a vitamin supplement particluarly for the Big Three (as I call them)Vitamin D, Iron and Zinc - as London is not really the Sunshine capital of the world! - He said it would not do any harm as we are just topping up is RDA - maybe talk to HV -but I wouldn't get into a twist about it. Go as you feel.

i think if you're satisfied that they have a good diet I'd not give anything else - I've only started giving dd1 who is 4.5 a supplement as she has become extremely fussy and I'm worried about what she isn't getting

Thanks both of you. Which brands have you gone for?

The Dr recommended Abidec, but there seems to be a supply problem at the moment and no one has had it for about 6 weeks so I am using Dalivit which seems to be more easily available and is same as the other one. I just add it to DS nighttime bottle -

It seems that Abidec has peanut oil in it. I know it's not supposed to be allergenic when it's the oil - but still seems a silly thing to have in a children's vitamin.

Dalivit doesn't contain peanut oil and states that explicitly.

So maybe the shortage is while Abidec take out the peanut oil.
