Has anyone experienced it long term? What was the cause and how did you get rid of it?

Plse google lichen sclerosis in case.

Thanks CaroleService. It's in the groin rather than on the vulva or inside. Not thrush...I've had that before and would recognise that. Steroid ointment was recommended but has not cleared it up. Neither has fungus treatment as in atheletes foot treatment as recommended on line.

Try taking an antihistamine. I'm allergic to something and I don't know what it is. The itching starts in my groin and goes onto my torso. I take an antihistamine and it's gone in an hour.

Don't be offended but scabies could be a possibility. I think it affects the groin particularly badly.

.... You can catch it from hotel beds, friends houses. I caught it myself as a student. I had SN itchy groin and hands. It took three visits for my GP to diagnose it, he said I didn't fit the profile (he had big judgey pants).

I knew a baby with scabies.

Could be a fungal infection in the crotch. Isn't there something called 'jock itch' which is the same fungus as athlete's foot?

Ye. N tried athelete's foot stuff for week as recommended....no joy TeaBrick.

I had an unbearable itch there for years, on and off, nothing to see and undiagnosed, including pain in ovary/intestine area. Cancer surgery eventually showed ovary misplaced plus nearby infection, probably due to accident years earlier - no itch since, no reason various scans ineffective.

Probably a fungal infection which is made worse by warm weather.

Wearing no underwear or just plain natural fibres will help. lots of exposure to sunlight and fresh air...... though not in tescos! Loose clothing, no tights etc. Use an anti fungal cream like canestan twice a day for a fortnight, buy and anti bacterial wash and wash with it daily.

Getting rid of all your old underwear will help, though rather expensive, as you will be re infecting your self. You can try washing them all on a hot wash but that may ruin the more delicate items.

You can get a tablet from your gp called terbinafine hydrochloride (Lamisil) but most gp's are reluctant to prescribe it due to its cost and the fact that it causes liver problems with long term use though you should only need a very short course.

I'll see if I can get away with the no underwear at work I don't work with food thank goodness.

And a good excuse to buy new cotton underwear! I buy the shorts from Debenhams usually as there is no irritating elastic around the leg. May look in M&S tomorrow.

Witch Hazel and/or Aloe Vera gels work better for me than any chemical creams.

Interesting as I put some Aloe Vera gel on this am after my shower.

Would Aloe Vera and/or witch Hazel work on clearing a fungal infection?

For a completely different fungal infection, I found that Teatree oil and/or Listerine mouthwash (!) both worked better than a year on Lamasil tablets.

Hmmm...Listerine.

I looked for and then bravely asked for some fungal infection wash at Boots pahrmacy today but the pharmacist didn't have a clue what I was on about??? She didn't ask where the infection was and I wasn't about to tell her in public

I couldn't find any so I may use listerine to cleans it.

Update: Went to trainee GP on Friday and she says there's thickening of the skin due to scratching it. She's given me a higher dose of steroid in Betnovate cream. I threw all my knicks out and bought 12 new pairs of cotton shorts (no elastic around the leg) I took anti-histamine which indeed stop the itching until the middle of the night where I woke myself up scratching. GP did a test for diabetes..we have it in the family.
