Help diagnose my FIL

My FIL has mesothelioma, had both his lungs drained about 9 months ago, also at the same time he was diagnosed with osophegeal carcinoma (I know 2 primary cancers!) anyway since he has had his chest drains out he has been having radiating pain on his left side from just under his lower ribs to his kidney area, not suggesting it's kidney, just in that general area.
This pain has got gradually worse over the past 4 months or so.
What the real puzzle is, is on the same side, his whole half of his chest and back goes cold and sweaty, where as the other half of his body stays normal.
Could this be cancer related, he has spoken to his oncologist who said that the cancer can make people sweat but not heard of it on just one side of the body.

Heart problems? Can arise from cancer treatment and would be leftsided.

He's only had radiotherapy to the drain sites, refused chemo

It could actually be a recurrence or the cancer affecting the bone or tissue in that area.

Has he had a recent CAT or PET scan?

Giddypants · 12/09/2012 19:51

He has had a ultra sound scan today and having a CT scan at some point, I'm worried that it could be getting worse, what the really annoying thing is that the osophegeal cancer could have been treated quite successfully but because of the lung cancer they won't even touch it, so that one can carry on spreading.

That sounds very unfair Sad I'm sorry...I hope it is something unrelated causing this pain.

Best wishes to him x

Thank you, he is amazingly upbeat about everything, but I don't think he has accepted it yet, the ultra sound of liver and kidneys were normal, just waiting for the CT

That's good news that the US was Ok. Also it's great if he is positive and not feeling too floored by it all, though of course that doesn't necessarily make it any easier on you, and your family.

I hope the CAT results are alright too, let me know if you feel up to it - and take care of yourself x

Thanks again, he had to come home early from a trip to the coast today as the pain over night was too much for him, poor MIL.
Trying to get through to him that he needs to take regular pain killers, he's never taken tablets before and resents having to rely on them.
CT booked for Tuesday hopefully some news then, going to pop over tomorrow not much I can do just was to let them know they are not alone.
