Advice needed for bad groin abscess.

Please can anyone advise me what to do? I have a recurring abscess/ boil in the groin area.
It has flared up again and is large and very sore.

I 'treated' it myself the last flare up using hot bath, mag sulph then tea tree and it settled for a week or so but is now making walking difficult.

The infected area feels like several different channels, all very hard, red and inflamed. I have not phoned NHS24 as they usually tell you to take paracetamol and see your dr on monday. I feel awful.

Go to minor injuries clinic this evening - sounds like you need antibiotics

Thanks CMOTdibbler. will they cut the area?
I am at the stage now where I wish to god they would cut the entire area out.

Oh terribly that's sounds awful. When you say if feels like channels, it could be that's you have fissures. You really need to get medical advice. Short term to deal Witt he flare up, which may include surgical draining. And long term to find the cause and stop it happening again.

I would get seen by out of hours. Do you have a temp, feel clammy? Dont just say its sore, if it's an infection it could really make y poorly. Insist on being seen.

I feel tired and no energy Glakit. was up through the night with raised temp and felt a bit disorientated.

Sorry if this is tmi but it radiates out like a thick spider, there are about five channels and they are very hard and thick. the worst bit keeps weeping and I have put a dry dressing on it but it is in the most awkward place.

I saw the dr on Friday but was alloted a male dr but felt too embarrassed to show him.

Probably - the nurses got a lot of pleasure from incising/draining dh's recent abcess. Go and see what they say

terriblysore · 08/09/2012 17:38

Thanks. Am going to have a quick bath and will head to out of ours.

Will it be ok to drive myself? There is nobody else around.

It likely is Hydradenitis Supporativa. I get to say this quite often on MN! It is boils that can interconnect with each other in your tissues. Occurs in warm, moist areas like underarms, under heavy breasts, in groin area. Often starts around age ten.

Docs will probably give you antibiotics which might not do much good. Try this if you feel daring: buy some turmeric capsules. Take one orally. Break open a couple amd make a paste with first aid cream and smear on affected area. Cover with bandage, it stains. You might feel tingling within ten minutes. It might break open within hours.

Yours that feel like ropes might be filled with pus. Very interesting description.

Try moist heat.
