I've been bitten about 7 times, over the past couple of weeks, a couple of them got really swollen but now the swelling has gone down but they are still really itchy. I seem to get a new one every day!

HELP!

I had a spate of them a couple of weeks back - actually think it was a spider responsible. Anyway - my Dad told me to apply Surgical Spirit on cotton wool to the bite and unlike all his other crazy remedies this one actually worked! Takes the itch right out of it and the swelling went pretty quickly too.

The midgies have been really bad this year, there is one of the little f*ers flying around my living room right now!!

Lavender oil on the bites is meant to be good, otherwise get some insect repellent, I had some left over from holiday that I sprayed on me and dd tonight!!!

Apparently fleas and mossies have been very bad this year. We have had both....despite DC (dear cat) being de-fleaed within an inch of his life (and house too!). I've had gargantuan mossie bites this year....miserable. Tried Piriton in the end, which stopped the swelling and itch amazingly well. And carrying around a citronella candle from room to room and spraying with insect repellant. Got no bites abroad near the sea....but loads in the UK!

I got eaten alive a week ok when camping and they are still keeping me awake and crazy with the itching!

One in particular got HUGE and I think it will scar. Good job it's only on my legs :)

i have had a couple round my ankles which ive itched and having started the size of a pin head they are now a good three inches of raw skin which i am now applying anti biotic cream too - they look better now but where def infected urghh.

nipitinthebud · 07/09/2012 22:04

Honestly try Piriton (I resorted to the stuff out of date left over from DC's chicken pox) and it was like a minor miracle. Mine was literally about 5-6 in diameter and within 24h was just the size of the bite. Bliss!!!

Xroads · 07/09/2012 22:16

Mine are now the size of normal bites but having now got 7 and they all itch it's been driving me mad. I've tried taking hayfever tablets, will give the surgical spirits a try and def spraying insect repellent!

Of course Piriton is also great but it does rather put you to sleep! Great at night if you're being woken by the itching though! Hope you get it sorted OP

Lots of mossies this year due to lots of rain

Make sure yours aren't infected - need antibiotics if that happens.

Dd2 has horrible spots on her skin, which I think may be bites.
