My 16 week old baby has really bad eczema and his cheeks are weeping really badly, and they have an unpleasant smell. I'm taking him to the gp tomorrow but just wondered if any one had any tips on what I can do in the meantime?

Hi, Sorry I'm asleep when everyone else is awake, as I live in NZ.

Right - Bob uses Botanaflor which the paed imports from the US and sells to us. It has other stuff in too, including some stuff (jerusalem artichoke I think) which increases the absorption of the bacteria and some "stool bulking" material. He has taken it since a month after he started solids and we mix the contents of the gel cap with pear puree and give before breakfast and tea. In his lunch I give flaxseed oil.

We originally used 1/2 cap twice a day and it did nothing for the eczema (lovely nappies though), then I accidentally gave 1 1/2 caps one day and the eczema improved. His eczema isn't better, but we have introduced 25 foods into his diet over the last few months and it hasn't got any worse. I interpret this as the probiotics working, as for the first month of solids we had vomiting and infected eczema all over the place.

Some probiotics need to be stored in the fridge (ours doesn't which makes it more travel friendly). HTH
