FAI / Hip impingement / Labral tears

Anyone got any experience?

I'm currently being diagnosed for a labral tear in my right hip, but it looks like I might have FAI / hip impingement.

I'm 30, and it came on after I started ramping up my exercise from 2k a week to 20k a week running.

I haven't got a diagnosis yet, but I may have this. For the past few weeks I have had a pinching pain in my right hip whenever I raise my knee to 90 degrees. DP (a rheumatologist) examined me and said it should clear up but it hasn't so I am going to get an x ray requested. DP thinks it's impingement. I don't really know what to expect and he is saying it 'isn't a problem' but I know from googling that it can be so I think he is just trying to keep me happy...

What are your symptoms? WHat tests have you had?

My main symptom is sharp pain in my hip/groin when I bear weight, as well as stiffness, lower back pain and very limited range of motion. I get a very uncomfortable feeling (like my hip is going to dislocate if I raise my legs)

I had an arthrogram on monday (where they inject dye into the join capsule to look for tears) where they also injected anaesthetic into the joint. The sharp pain has gone, but both my hips are very stiff, very painful after I've been sitting for a long period of time, and as the day goes on they start to ache, and the ache starts at my pelvis and goes all the way down to my ankles.

I had the hip pain when I was pregnant with DD three years ago, but it cleared up after some physio. It then came back about nine months ago when I increased the intensity of my exercise.

It's now at the point where I can't walk very far (I have to walk about a mile a day to get to work, train etc) and that's pretty much my limit.

That sounds pretty bad, poor you. Mine is not so severe, it doesn't hurt when I bear weight, just if I lift my knee up, sometimes climbing stairs. I have got a GP appt today so will see what she suggests.

I've been told I have a hip impingement. The pain started during pregnancy and was excruciating, and remained a grumbling annoying pain afterwards. So far the talk has been of reducing the inflammation in the joint but I want to ask more about operating. The only operation mentioned so far is a hip replacement down the line, and I'd like to know if there's something else. The cartilage in the hip joint has begun to collapse. I feel most pain in my knee.

Lots and lots of sympathy. It sounds horrible for you. I hope they can help.
