Your experience of DVT / PE

I had DVT two years ago after the birth of my DD1. Had no idea then about blood clots and put my calf pain down to a sprain. I hobbled around on it for 2 weeks before I could barely walk and in a lot of pain before I went to the Dr.
Anyway I went through all the usual stuff, Had DVT in right calf and put on warfarin ect.....I think the only symptom I had was the pain this first time.
Came off about 3 months after and was put on heparin for my second pregnancy.
I had a few probs inbetween with bouts of pain and swelling which I thought were another clot but none found apart superficial ones (not visable ones). Some so bad I could barely walk again.
Since the birth of my second dd 10 months ago I have been absolutely fine
but in the past couple of days have had a tenderness down there. Can still walk fine but it is painful when pressed on. I don't want to bug the Dr or sit in a waiting room with 2 kids under 3 again! :( I don't have any reason it should have come back, no travel ect but then I didn't with the first apart from having been pregnant.
Just wondering what other people's experience of symptoms were, if you had any at all and if you had any probs after your DVT?
Thanks in advance.
No other symptoms.

I'd go to the GP, just for a check. My dad had PE/DVT, and the DVT (v big) never cleared properly and left him with issues in that vein that they said would always leave it prone to getting clots forming there, which it has done for no apparent reason

speckledpig · 04/09/2012 21:05

Ty, I may do. I guess it damages the vein once a clot has been there. Where did he have it?

Right at the top of his right leg - 6cm long

My DH has had 5 PE's and three seperate occasions of DVT's. Please just have them checked out.

I had a major DVT 3 years ago. Usual treatment: heparin, warfarin, stockings. I still get some pain now, especially if I've been sitting down for prolonged periods - I think the clots can cause damage to the vein long term. If you are in pain, I would get it checked out, just in case. With your history, no doctor will think you are wasting their time.

I had a PE, prob from a superficial clot. I have lots of twinges but I am not as far down the line as you, and still on warfarin so not worried as it is nothing new from when I was in hospital. Given the stage you are at, I would get checked out for peace of mind. As others have said, its probably from vein damage, but its just not worth the risk.

I didn't know you could get PE from Superfical ones thelobster. I hope you get better very soon. It is a worry I know. Florence, I think you are right there is a condition isnt there (post thrombotic syndrome or something) from the damage they have caused.
Gaston that is really rough going, sorry to hear that.

I think you can, but its rare. I had no signs of DVT before the PE but did have a superficial clot. It was the guy who did the ultrasound of the leg that said part of it could have broken off and gone to the lung. As I presented with a PE, they didn't seem to care about where it might have come from. I am fine now in myself, apart from being a bit anxious.
