Food intolerance - What are the side effects?

Without sounding like a complete drama queen, I feel not right a vast majority of the time. I feel exhausted, sluggish, grumpy, headaches that no amount of painkillers get rid of, stomach aches, bloating, sometimes going to the toilet a LOT more than usual, other times hardly ever, lots of wind.. There just always seems to be something wrong, and I've started thinking that maybe it's something to do with what I'm eating!?

I've stopped eating bananas the last few days as they always bought a dodgy stomach and cramps, and i haven't had too much of that since. But tonight I'm sitting here feeling like I'm going to be sick any minute, and every time i talk my head wants to explode!

Maybe there's no explanation for it, but it's been going on for months and i'm getting a bit fed up! Is it worth going to the GP? I feel like as i have no serious obvious things wrong they'll just tell me it's nothing!

Thank you for reading if you've got this far!

Prob worth going to the gp, but I would also try giving up wheat, and if that has no effect, dairy. I developed a massive gluten intolerance at 40, with similiar symptoms to those you describe.

oh you poor thing, you must feel rotten. you must see your gp. if it possibly a food intolerance (and i dont know if it is or not myself but sounds possible) they can refer you to the right people to help you find out if/what it could an intolerance to. If you feel worried that you will not be taken seriously due to it being a lot of small things that on their own seem not much, right them all down and explain that to your gp. they would have had this with lots of people with lots of symptoms, and your health is far more important than how they might percieve you at first. and, if they don't take you seriously at first, keep going back, and keep telling them how awful you feel until they do take you seriously. whatever it is, something is not as it should be as otherwise you would not feel so rotten.

have you looked at how much dairy/wheat/bread you eat? i have heard that the calcium proponate in lots of bread (which is completely unnecessary) can make you feel sluggish, headachey and create havoc with bowels. It certainly wont hurt to think about what foods you might eat more of on certain days/do a food diary and see if there is any pattern, such as the banana one.

Do you drink a lot of coffee? and chocolate? in particular chocolate and coffee together? sometimes i go through periods of drinking more caffeine than i should (normally at work) and often have sugar with it in some form. i tend to notice it increasing by how sluggish, headachey and sick i feel. i wonder why i feel this way, then look at my coffee/sugar intake! and reduce it, until the next time...

Thanks for your replies, I thought I might be over reacting!

That must have been a nightmare for you Talking. I hope you're feeling better now?

I've cut coffee out Pavlov as it gives me a raging headache & the shakes, but I probably eat a bit too much chocolate than I should! Blush

I will ring my GP in the morning, thanks again Smile

Ask for a coeliac test. V importAnt not to change your diet while being tested
