Prostestitis and night sweats? Please help.

My husband was diagnosed with prostestitis a year ago. He has been suffering from severe night sweats for months. PSA level now 12, at highest 28 which was after biopsy. MRI scan clear. Does anyone have any idea whether the sweats are connected to the condition or what else could be the cause? Dr and specialists have no idea. He wakes several times each night, soaked through and we are both completely sleep deprived.

Clippity - my DH has a form of non-hodgkins Lymphoma, and this was one of the symptoms.

Night sweats CAN (but not always) be a serious symptom, and should always be investigated.

Go back to the GP.

Thanks RedRosie. He's had comprehensive blood tests a number of times in the past year, most recently at a specialist prostate cancer clinic which rule out cancer, diabetes etc. Thank you for your post and best wishes to your DH.

That's good! Hopefully you will find a less worrying cause. Sweats are a symptom of other things as well ...

Could it be hormonal perhaps? That might make sense ...

Keep pushing ... Its worrying for you both. Poor man. If it is hormonal, perhaps there is a treatment to manage it?

Oops. Pressed post to soon.

I meant to end by saying maybe push for further endocrine investigation? It's quite specialist and might link with the prostestitis.

Finally, has he been treated with strong antibiotics? They can cause all sorts of side effects ...?

Good luck to you both. When DH was suffering this we tried a damp sheet over him which helped a little.

Thank you. He has been on strong anti-biotics for ages, but suffered the sweats beforehand. If it's the male menopause or something I wish he'd just buy a sports car and get an earring like other blokes...!

Clippity - I think there may well be a link.

Using Google, type in exactly:

Prostatitis "night sweats" site:.uk

And you can see that this is commonly reported, and seems to come up in relation to both prostate cancer and the more benign disease your DH has. It seems to relate to the condition as well as the treatment IYSWIM?

We got both the Lymphoma AND the sports car in this house - no earrings so far ... Smile
