Loss of Appetite

I'm 27. Recovering from a chest infection, so run down but not ill IYSWIM. Usually have a very hearty appetite.

For the last week I just can't face food. I'm hungry but you could offer me anything and I just feel sick at the thought of eating it. I've just choked down a cheese sarnie as I need to eat but urgh it turned my stomach. I fancied some crisps, went and got them, opened them and urgh.

Does this sound like the tail end of the chest infection? Or should I visit GP?

Once after 'flu I lost my appetite for about 6 weeks. Things just didn't taste right, and I had to stop after a tiny amount as if eating had become something my body didn't do any more. I think it is fairly common after a bad virus/infection. Can you try something like Horlicks (use sachets, quick and easy) it's really quite nice and slips down well? or a glass of Lucozade, which my mother used to buy for me (very thin as a child) when I'd been ill with chest infections and had similarly lost my appetite?

I think you'd be safe to leave it another few days to see if your appetite seems to be coming back (disclaimer: no medical knowledge) but obviously it ought to improve soon and if it doesn't, off to the doc with you.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hello, I think for the moment it is normal but I would go back if it's not better soon. Do you still have a cough? After my chest infection went, I still had a lot of pain (post-infective myalgia) and no appetite, but my doctor said it should clear around the same time as the cough.

In the meantime try and make sure what you eat is nutritious.
