Is it a dry or productive cough?

If it's productive it may be worthwhile elevating him to prevent the mucous irritating the back of the throat.

Otherwise have you tried medised?

Put a wet towel over warm radiator to moisten the rooms air

MamatoHoney · 11/03/2006 22:46

Can be worth giving a cough medicine if it is a dry cough. I know they are frowned upon, but I have found that they can soothe the cough long enough to allow the child to get into deep sleep so that when they start coughing again, they stay asleep.

brimfull · 11/03/2006 22:51

Sounds like you've tried everything then.

Must be one of those viruses you have to get throughSad

Ds has had nights when he's coughed continuously.hope you and he manage to get some sleep.

I take it he's not asthmatic?

expatinscotland · 11/03/2006 22:52

MamatoHoney · 11/03/2006 23:02

she will be 3 in sept

OP posts:
brimfull · 11/03/2006 23:02

might be worth giving her another dose and a drink of water. The dose is usually 4hrly but you'd need to check obviously.

MamatoHoney · 11/03/2006 23:03

went to bed about 7.30

expatinscotland · 11/03/2006 23:04

if/when she wakes up, i'd give her 5mL of tixylix and water - or put it in her water if she won't take it. that's what i have to do.

dd1 has a dry, hacking cough from this weather - i have it, too.

MamatoHoney · 11/03/2006 23:14

Hi My ds1 was not asthmatic but was given a blue inhaler by our doc when he had a chest infection - just in case. We rarely used it, but did find that it was fantastic with these tickly night coughs. One puff of the inhaler and he would cough once and not do so again for the night. If symptoms persist, it might be worth asking.

MamatoHoney · 12/03/2006 15:25

thanks tired mum hopefully going to see gp tommorow if this persists tonight she is fast asleep at the moment
