Scared of noise - hearing problem?

DS is nearly 22months and gets distressed and near hysterical at certain pitches of noise - eg: hand driers, drills, etc. I thought it was a phase triggered by being very tired when near to something loud, but a friend reckons it might be worth getting his hearing tested. Anyone think she's right??

My ds1 had hearing glue ear but was very distressed by loud noises - maybe worth checking out. Does he have ear infectiosn or show other signs?

Sorry an extra 'hearing' crept in there.

My DS doesn't like loud noises either, really complains at any kind of loud noise, even the vaccuum cleaner! He has had various ear tests and his hearing is okay but his speech is not very good and he is 4 in May. He has speech therapy at Nursery.

Interesting - he is prone to ear infections - had one a few weeks back, but we took him back to the Dr and she said it was clear.

  • speech - well we're lucky as we seem alright on that. Infact he never shuts up Grin

dd was the same - remember a particular chain saw episode and she hated a toddler group where they bashed on the piano. No hearing problem and she outgrew it by 3.
