Costochondritis anyone?

I was told I has costochondritis over two weeks ago and got 4 days worth of ibruprofen prescribed. Shouldn't it have cleared up by now? Is there any point in me going back to the doctor? I had it three times in an approximately year long period when I was 14/15 and I'm 24 now and it's reared its ugly head again.

You poor thing, it can be incredibly painful.

I had this this last year and it took months to clear up properly-it was all part of a virus/pleurisy illness I had and was off work for 6 weeks! My GP gave me Diclofenac ( a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug) which sort of helped.

Hope you recover soon.

My best friend has this. It's bloody awful as far as I can tell by looking at what he goes through so you have my every sympathy. Please go back, it can become chronic like my friend's has but I think there is some stuff the doctor can try to help.

I did some reading on Wikipedia and apparently if it's recurring they may consider a cortisone injection, but as my parents didn't take me to the doctors with it when I was 15, I don't know if they will count the first three times.

It's not so bad at the moment but I have to be really conscious of my
Breathing as if I breathe too deeply it hurts. Laughing is difficult and yawning and sneezing are almost impossible, which is a shame as I love a good yawn Grin

I was told by the advanced nurse practitioner (I think that's what she was called) that I should rest it, but I don't have a job that gives sick pay and I couldnt afford to miss anymore as I had the weekend off for the same thing when it first set in. That's why I wondered if there was any point in me going back as I don't want to waster their time by turning up just for them to say "well we did tell you to rest it..."
