Seperated stomach muscles

Does anyone have any experience of this?

After the birth of my second baby i had to go through physio therapy due to seperated stomach muscles, when the midwife checked them the gap between muscles was 3 fingers wide.

After physio id got the gap down to half a fingertip wide, so still a small gap that will probably never be fully closed again, but a hell of a lot better.

Anyway all this was 4 months ago, but for the last 2 days ive been getting a very uncomfortable bordering on aching feeling in my stomach muscles, its quite a weird feeling, but its definatley my muscles.

Is this normal? Should i be getting this feeling 4 months on? Im almost convinced that ive done something to make the muscles seperate again :(

There was a case on C4's Embarrassing Bodies, where she had surgery to sew them back together, but Dr Christain could get his whole hand down there!

Have you been to the GP?

4 months is still early days, but they should be on the way back to normal.

Yeah it was the GP who checked them at my post-natal check-up, said they where really good now, just a tiny gap.

The discomfort seems to have eased off now, maybe it was something else, not my muscles?

Hi yesterday are totally shot to pieces after I had my twins 7 months ago they could just about find the muscle, they could feel my organs!!!

Makes me feel sick to think about!!!

But I also get that aching feeling etc.

I haven't done anything about it, should exercise as told that will help, sp no advice but just to say I'm same.

ladythatlunches - have you not been reffered to physio? I went and they gave me a few pilates type exercises, they really do help, its all about pulling the muscles in and strengthening them up.

Maybe ask your GP to refer you?

The midwives said I will need it but when I went for my 6 week check up she said just to exercise, she didn't check it or anything!

Shocking! I knew something was wrong and i badgered the midwife until she reffered me, if i hadnt of done her head in then id still have a big problem. You have to keep on at them, see your GP and tell him you want to be reffered to see a physio.

Did she not even tell you what exercises to do? Just exercise? Because some exercises (crunches and sit-ups) can make it even worse, because it pushes the muscles out rather that pulls them together

No nothing at all!

To be fair my stomach "looks" fine now it doesn't cause me any trouble!!!

But saying that I'm still young, so next time I go to the doctors I'll get checked as dot want it causing problems in future.
