Gone to docs about thrush

Since Sunday night I have had burny/itchy ladybits, resulting in me not sleeping.
Went to docs as never had thrush before and wanted to make sure before buying canesten.

He listened to my symptoms and told me it definitlry sounded like thrush.
No further investigation.

So I took the pill and have been applying the cream since this morning.
But it feels so uncomfortable still.

Plus I was reading about thrush and it seems the main causes are hormonal changes caused by stress or pregnancy. But I am neither!

How long will it take the canesten to work if it is thrush?

It can take a couple of days, just keep using the cream. Thrush is usually caused by loads of things, a change in pH for example. Have you used a different bodywash?

I have been having more baths because it's been so hot.
Was wearing my 'fabulous' skinny jeans on Sunday and it was just too hot for them which could have upset it a bit I guess :(

Was starting to worry if it was BV or worse an STI

Just give the pessary chance to work, it can take a few days. In the meantime wear something cool and some cotton knickers. The discharge for thrush is horrid, more like cottage cheese, it's a give away. It's not very nice, you must be miserable. Sad

Well that's the thing. I noticed a bit of cottage cheese discharge at first but havnt had anymore of that for the last day, but still really itchy

More baths probably havent helped, also tight clothing etc doesnt help, same as a bladder infection just ahem else where, I had thrush, never went doctors took a few days to clear up, it does itch and drive you crazy but will get better, that canesten advert is misleading i tell you, it doesnt happen instantly. Hope you feel better soon,

Beaverfeaver · 14/08/2012 22:27

Sad Give it until tomorrow, then pop back to your GP. Garlic is very good at treating thrush if you want a DIY remedy. I've only used it for Oral thrush, but my old neighbour crushed some, then spread it over a tampon.

I get thrush alot, loads of things can trigger it,
Tight clothes
Different shower gel or soap
Talc
Different laundry powder or softener
Polyester clothes
Sweat
Too much dairy or sugar in your diet
Hormones
The mirena coil has been mentioned
Stress
Your partner havin it and reinfecting you

The list is endless and I agree with others it can take several days to settle down.

Ice packs. Seriously, calms the whole area right down. Sit on them. It leaves the area less irritated and the creams and things can get on with their job.
