Urine sample during period?

This is probably a really daft post, so apologies in advance!

I've just registered with a new GP and need a full health-check with the nurse. Booked it for tomorrow, and I need to bring in a urine sample. I've never had a period when I've needed to do a urine test before - is this alright or do I need to rebook? The problem is, I'm having a really heavy period at the moment and my wee has menstrual blood and clots in it (sorry!) I think if I wear a tampon when I do the sample this should be okay and make it look like normal wee. However, do I need to tell the nurse that I have my period in case it affects the results of the urine test?

No it will be fine. If there is any obvious blood in the sample I would just mention that it is menstrual.

Yes mention it to the nurse that you have your period. The sample may contain blood that isn't visible and show on the dipstick.

Thanks, I thought it would be alright. I'll just let the nurse know when I hand her my wee! Grin
