How long did it take for bleeding to stop after Mirena insertion?

I had my mirena put in four weeks ago, and have bled every day since then. It's not heavy, but I need to change my pad 3-4 times a day, can't take the dc swimming etc.

My GP said to expect erratic bleeding for the first three months. Does that mean I will bleed every day for the next two months too? I don't enjoy sex if I'm bleeding, so it's a VERY effective contraceptive.

Also, when did mirena users start to use tampons or moon cups? After the six week check? My GP said to use pads initially.

I have just been through this also. I had made an appointment to get it taken out because I couldn't take the bleeding anymore, and then it suddenly stopped. Mine lasted for 6/7 weeks and I was despairing by the end.

I had a phone consultation with my GP initially (because I couldn't get an appointment) and she said 'it could take up to six months before the bleeding settles down'. I clearly missed that in the literature or I would have thought twice!

I started using tampons pretty much straight away so I could take the DC swimming etc. and my GP hadn't told me not to. I'm glad I hung in there now and waited for it to stop as otherwise have had no negative side effects. I've ready on some forums about women putting on weight, but I am currently trying to drop a stone or two, and it is coming off no problem.

Hope that helps!

I didnt have bleeding after insertion and have only had the odd bit of spotting and a couple of very short periods (2-3 days that were very light). I was on the mini-pill prior to getting it though and didnt have periods with that either
