Dentists - taking children off the NHS and making them private?

A friend has just had a letter to say that her dentist will no longer treat her children as NHS patients

He will only treat them as private patients

Is this right? Is it allowed?

It's not fair

It is allowed. It is to do with the new NHS dentist contracts. Our dentist still hopes to keep children on NHS but hasn't yet recieved a new contract for when the existing one expires at the end of March. Adults will be private/Denplan only. I only found this out on Tuesday when I needed to make check up appointments for our children. Apparently they wrote to those who would have to change over at Christmas but because dh and I are already on Denplan our children were overlooked.
