7 month old has mild diarrhoea

My 7 month old ds2 has mild diarrhoea. 1st slightly runny nappy was 2 days ago, then 24 hours later he had his next dirty nappy which was yellow + runny and I was going to see how it went today before ringing for docs appt. He had another yellow runny nappy at 4.30pm today and the surgery had closed. My husband works on an emergency ambulance and says the only treatment is oral rehydration salts and plenty of water and to cut out food for 24 hours - he doesn't think ds needs to go to doctors. This rings a bell from what the doctor said when ds1 was ill like this. I'm worried about cutting out formula and solids though - I've just given him some electrolade instead of his dinner and he is already cranky (but otherwise is completely fine in himself) - anyone any advice?
