Aren't there gel saddles and padded shorts?

LadySybildeChocolate · 08/08/2012 16:10

Sounds like you need a better saddle.

doinmummy · 08/08/2012 16:13

Ouch ! I sympathise. I cycled to work once and my fanny actually bled Sad. I padded up with about 5 sanitary towels for the journey home!

I had a gel saddle so dont think they work , they only make it a bit more comfortable for bum cheeks.

I think that it's the position ie leaning forward on a bike that puts all the pressure on your fanny. Dont know what the answer is.

SparklingGoldMedals · 08/08/2012 16:14

Bled? Shock

doinmummy · 08/08/2012 16:20

Yes , the rubbing was so bad that my inner labia were all grazed and bleeding. My clitoris was also red raw Sad Blush

SparklingGoldMedals · 08/08/2012 16:21

OMG cycling is very dangerous for all sorts of reasons then. Sad There are 2 mountain bikes for our use on our holiday in a few weeks. I am a bit scared now.

dranksinatra · 08/08/2012 16:22

Stand on the pedals, more.
Less on the, erm, petals..

SirEdmundFrillary · 08/08/2012 16:27

Peddley peddley peddley peddley
peddley peddley peddley peddley
peddley peddley peddley
OUCH

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/08/2012 16:51

Is it a womens specific saddle?

cheap some bikes have mens saddles as default. Mens sit bones are in a different place to womens so instead of being supported on our sitbones we are "supported" our bits.

The fattest, heavily sprung gel saddle in the world won't help if it is a blokes saddle.

Or get a recumbent.

BunnyLebowski · 08/08/2012 16:52

And this, dear ladies, is why I don't exercise.

< sits on lovely pain-free nethers and reaches for another biscuit>

doinmummy · 08/08/2012 17:15

Hear hear bunny

I only cycled to work because my car had broken down. To add insult to injury ( and shredded petals) it pissed down with rain and I am so unfit that it too me an hour and a half to cycle a 15 min car ride.

So I arrived at work unable to walk properly, over an hour late and looking like an asthmatic wet t shirt entry.

BunnyLebowski · 08/08/2012 17:23

Howl at "shredded petals" Grin Grin

SparklingGoldMedals · 08/08/2012 19:05

I don't want my undercarriage shredded. Sad

Sunnystormyday · 09/08/2012 21:07

It is a ladies saddle but i always wondered who the fuck designed bike saddles in the first place? They dont seem suited to either type of undercarriage. A recumbant?? The first time i saw one of those i thought it had been squished under a lorry. Id rather have mashed fanj than be seen on a recumbant, sorry!

You can buy padded shorts and gel saddles help alot.

Cailleach · 10/08/2012 21:55

I have a (ladies) gel saddle on mine, it's ace, like sitting on a sofa cushion - the one I had before was just an instrument of torture.

My brother got me the gel one - took one look at the old saddle and laughed, said "that's for blokes" (he's a cycling nut, does loads of cross country stuff.)

BehindLaneNumberNine · 10/08/2012 21:59

Aha, this is why Dutch bikes are better!! I have one and you sit more upright and I can honestly say I have never ever even felt my fanny anwhere near my saddle! As for grazed clitoris, I can only say Shock

Islagiatt · 10/08/2012 22:25

Me too doinmummy. I had a bleeding fanjo and lying dh told me the gel saddle would be comfortable.

hellymelly · 10/08/2012 22:33

I used to cycle 7 miles to work, (and back again) so 14 miles a day, and my fange remained un-mashed...Now I wonder why? Am hoping it was the (very bog standard) woman's saddle, and not that I have some freaky over padded fango.

hellymelly · 10/08/2012 22:34

Oh, cross post, but it was a dutch bike, so maybe that was why ?

peeriebear · 10/08/2012 22:38

I rode DH's bike to town once. My fanjo felt like I'd been kicked by a donkey and my clitoris stung so much I nearly cried when I had to wee and wipe

Anifrangapani · 10/08/2012 22:48

When you aren't peddling stand on the peddles and take the weight off. Uphill sit back on the bum bones. Avoid wide padded "women specific" saddles - they push you forward on to your clit /flaps and causes chaffing. My comfortiest saddle is a blokes Giro Itallia racing saddle.
