I have had cold after cold after cold since december and now i'm on my fourth bout of coughing, its a really really niggling tickly cough, if I sit in the chair to try and relax it starts up and i cough so much my nose and eyes start streaming, but when I try and go to bed it never stops, i was up until 1.30 this morning, finally fell asleep at 2am and was up at 5.15.

Has anyone got any tips that can help?

You could try a pholcodeine linctus to help to supress and dry up the cough, if you are bunged up perhaps a decongestant. Steam ih will help to sooth your airways, particularly if you ad some vicks to boiling hot water and inhale(remeber to keep your eyes shut!)
Most other cough syrups are just glycerine, to coat and soothe the throat, you could make yourself your own cough medicine, First type is just a cube of jelly dissolved in hot water. the second is some hot water with honey and lemon.
Prop yourself up at night and try to take these drinks when you feel a fit comming on, the more you cough, the rawer you will make your throat, so try to catch yourself before you start coughing away!

how frustrating for you, I hope you feel beter soon.

Thanks very much for the advice, after another bout i'd had enough and went into town to the health shop and got some 1000mg vitamin c and some of \link{http://www.allenshealthcare.co.uk/images/dry_product.jpg\this} hopefully it will work.

I'm not bunged up at all, just my nose is constantly running and more so after alot of coughing. I'm going to have a hot radox bath later, a mug of horlix and some of this med and hope it works.
